Reading Assignment - Class #6

Please read mitzvot #188 - 195.  Please consider the following questions, some of which may have complex answers.

  1. Assume the Torah forbids two people from having sex with each other.  Exactly what behavior is prohibited d’oraita?  D’rabanan?

Please fill in the following chart.  Consider this from the point of view of a protagonist we will call Mr. Y.  For each listed relationship, try to determine

1.        Whether Mr. Y is permitted or prohibited from having sex with the designated person,

2.       Whether the prohibition is d’oraita or d’rabanan,

3.       Which mitzvah explains the halachah for this relationship,

4.       Whether the author says the prohibition is reciprocal (whether the author says Mr. Y’s potential sexual partner is also prohibited from engaging in this encounter and, if so, if the source of the prohibition is the same mitzvah),

5.       What the punishment is for breaking the prohibition. This may have multiple answers depending on various circumstances.

Although the chart format makes it appear that the answers will be clear and simple, that may not always be true.  Some of the answers may have conditions or may be more complex in some other say.
